Give Back. Inspire. Serve.
Volunteering with the Miami‑Dade Public Library System is a great way to give back to the community, help others, build your resume and gain job experience, and better understand your library, your community and yourself. Support the Library and volunteer.
Some volunteer opportunities include:
- Shelving and shelf reading books and magazines
- Assisting in the library office
- Mending books and other materials
- Assisting with Children’s programming
- Becoming a Computer Coach/Trainer
The Library accepts volunteers 16 or older who are able to make a 3 month and/or 50 hour commitment. Court ordered volunteer work cannot be completed at the library.
To apply you must call the branch where you would like to volunteer in order to make an appointment; proper photo identification is required.
Volunteer applicants are accepted based on the needs of the branch and must be approved by the Branch Manager. A fingerprint and background check must be successfully passed before an applicant can be placed. The Library System will cover the cost of fingerprinting.
Volunteering with the Friends of the Miami‑Dade Public Library
The Friends of the Library host an annual Book Sale at the Main Library to raise money for programming and other library enhancements. Volunteers are needed to sort materials in preparation for the Book Sale and to help during the 4‑day Book Sale.Information About the Friends Book Sale
