Miami-Dade Public Library System takes preventive measures against coronavirus
(Miami, FL – March 4, 2020) The Miami‑Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) continues to monitor the coronavirus and to follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. While no cases have been reported in Miami‑Dade County as of March 4, we are taking additional measures beyond our regular daily cleaning activities at all 50 of our library locations.
In addition to our regular janitorial cleanings at our locations, we are placing additional emphasis on cleaning tables, computer areas and equipment, bathrooms, seating areas, door handles and other frequently touched surfaces. We are also deploying hand sanitizing stations for placement at library entrances and other high‑traffic locations within our libraries to supplement the cleaning and sanitizing sprays, wipes, disinfectants, soap, and other products that are already available at our libraries. Further, staff throughout our library branches is assisting with additional cleaning throughout each workday to help prevent the spread of germs.
In addition to our enhanced cleaning efforts, MDPLS is also here to serve as a source of information for the public and will have posters in English and Spanish provided by the CDC with steps to stop the spread of germs, including washing your hands, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue and staying home when you are sick, displayed in all our library locations and will be on our library website at www.mdpls.org.
