Geek Out with an Interactive Art Project at the Miami Beach Regional Library
– A community event where the observer becomes the artist with Muralist Serge Toussaint –
(Miami, FL – November 20, 2014) The Miami‑Dade Public Library System is transforming the walls of the Miami Beach Regional Library auditorium for I Geek Art: A Community Event, a two day event inviting artists of all talents to create a large‑scale community art project to be unveiled to the public on the second day. Everyone has something they “geek” or are passionate about, and the library wants to know what it is.
Monday, December 1, 3 p.m.
Artists of all ages are invited to take part in the library’s community art project, with muralist Serge Toussaint starting the project by illustrating how much he “geeks” street art. Beginning at 3 p.m., artists can paint, until the canvas is complete, what they geek using the Geek the Library colors of red, white and black. Protective wear will be provided.
Tuesday, December 2, 5:30 - 7: 30 p.m.
The public is invited to view the completed project, enjoy a modern dance performance, participate in a discussion on the Miami art scene with local curator Carter Jackson-Brown, and share what they geek.
“This is a great opportunity for the public to exercise their creative muscle in a library setting that really supports anything they geek,” said Rafael Costa, Library Services Specialist at the Miami‑Dade Public Library System. Visitors are also invited to view the art exhibit Mr. Munchlee’s Magic Top Hat by Tilia Lulu and Corrie Rice through December 13, 2014 on the 2nd floor exhibition space. For a listing of Art Exhibitions at other libraries please visit the Exhibitions at the Library web page.
The I Geek Art: A Community Event is made possible by the City of Miami Beach, Cultural Affairs Program, Cultural Arts Council.
