Miami Lakes Branch Library Renovation Project
As of March 23, 2026, the Miami Lakes Branch Library will be closed for approximately 24 months for an interior and exterior construction and renovation project. The project is sustainably designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
Project Highlights Include:
Interior Improvements
- New shelving and furniture with USB and electrical device charging ports
- New acoustical ceilings, carpeting, flooring and painting throughout
- New Children’s Room area and YOUmedia Miami technology space
- New lighting and fixtures, including energy-efficient LED lighting, updated electrical and additional outlets throughout the building
- New and updated collection of books, DVDs and other materials
- Renovated auditorium with new projection and sound system
- New multipurpose, study and collaboration rooms
- New public restrooms in the Children’s Room and updated existing public restrooms with new finishes and low-flow fixtures
- New desktop computers and Surface Pro laptops for public use
- Wireless upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 for faster connectivity
- New telecom infrastructure and data wiring throughout the branch
Exterior Improvements
- Addition of approximately 5,000 square feet to the existing facility
- New energy-efficient “cool roof” and impact-resistant windows and doors
- Improved exterior façade
- New courtyard seating area with new furniture and trellis
- Pedestrian walkway connecting to new reading garden and reading park
- New landscaping with native planting and new water-conserving irrigation system
- New bike racks
- Re-asphalting of the parking lot
- Addition of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
- Drive-up Wi-Fi coverage available in the entire parking lot
