Beat the Summer Slide
Keep reading over the summer to prevent learning loss — and have fun while doing it!
Reading for just 20 minutes a day, listening to books and staying engaged through library activities and online educational games can help prevent summer learning loss and set kids up for success in the new school year.
Parents and caregivers can also help prevent the summer slide by reading in front of their children. Kids are more likely to develop strong reading habits when they see the adults in their lives enjoying books and reading regularly themselves.
Official Guidelines

Visit any Miami-Dade Public Library System location between June 1 and August 1, 2026, to join the challenge, pick up your Summer Reading & Activity Log and register for the grand prize drawing. You can also download an online copy of the log.
- Earn a weekly reward for every three books read or three hours spent reading or attending library programs. Any combination of the three counts.

Complete all eight weekly challenges and earn a Reading Achiever medal.

All registered participants ages 0 to 18 years are eligible for the grand prize drawing. One entry per library cardholder. The prize drawing will be held the week of August 3, 2026, and winners will be notified by August 14, 2026.
- Employees of the Miami-Dade Public Library System are not eligible for the prize drawing.
