Jump Start Early Literacy Kits
Jump Start is an early literacy service of the Miami‑Dade Public Library System available to licensed preschool and kindergarten childcare centers located within the library's taxing district. Centers may be private, public or church schools. Parent co‑ops, licensed family care providers and homeschoolers are also eligible to use Jump Start.
Jump Start offers storytime experiences for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners outside the library. The service provides kits with materials to present fun, high quality storytimes on a variety of themes. The Jump Start kits include books, finger plays, a flannel board story, a puppet and a music CD.
Joining Jump Start is quite easy, just call 305‑375‑4116 to register. The Jump Start application can be printed and mailed to Jump Start (2455 NW 183 Street). You may be begin using Jump Start as soon as your library card is activated.
How to get Materials
- Call 305‑375‑4116 to request the kits.
- Kits will be sent to the library branch of your choice and you will be notified when they are available for pick up.
- Kits can be checked out for 28 days and may be renewed by calling the Jump Start office.
- Centers can renew kits up to three times (with two additional renewals during hurricanes or other natural disaster situations).
Returning the Kits
Included in each kit is a checklist to help keep track of the materials. Please be sure to review the items before returning the kit. Kits may be returned to any branch of the Miami‑Dade Public Library System.
