History

Since 2001, the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Art of Storytelling professional exchange workshops and international festival has grown into an internationally recognized event attended by hundreds of librarians, storytellers and educators. Setting it apart from other storytelling festivals is the collaborative and reciprocal relationship the Library System has developed with libraries from other countries. By bridging the gap between our local culture and the cultures found in countries such as Ghana, Ireland, Jamaica, Brazil, France and our 2008 partner, Park Libraries in Medellin, Colombia, participants have been able to enjoy the flavors of other countries through performances, storytelling and exhibitions – all of which have made the Art of Storytelling a colorful tapestry for all ages to enjoy.
