Camps

Storytelling plays an important role in education and literacy. As the Library System’s signature event, the Art of Storytelling has expanded to include year-round storytelling and cultural activities that incorporate an intensive professional exchange week, professional workshops and an international festival day into a broader cultural storytelling plan.

In April 2008, storytelling camps were held for children, ages 8-12, at several branches throughout the community. This unique type of camp not only gave children the opportunity to hear stories, but it also lent them the chance to become storytellers themselves. Graduates of the camp performed for audiences during the International Festival Day held on May 3rd, 2008.
