BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE AT YOUR MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC LIBRARY!

-Enjoy an author visit, jazz appreciation workshop and more! -

(MIAMI, FEBRUARY 15, 2012) – Black History Month celebrations continue at Miami-Dade Public Libraries. Meet Javaka Steptoe, author, artist, designer and illustrator who will share his story – In Daddy’s Arms –on Tuesday, February 21, 10:30 a.m. at the Arcola Lakes Branch and at 5:30 p.m. at the California Club Branch. On Wednesday, February 22, get a lesson in everything jazz! The workshop will be held at the Kendale Lakes Branch at 3:30 p.m. and at the South Dade Regional Library at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy an African sculpture and textile art display and a discussion with its collector Vilma Garabaghi on Sunday, February 25, 11 a.m. at the North Central Branch and on Tuesday, February 28, 7 p.m. at the South Miami Branch.

The photographic exhibition Suburban Roots: Portraits of Home and Community by Anthony Reid, is currently on display through April 30 at the North Dade Regional Library. These 50 photographic images, captured between 1987 and 2010, document the lives of family and neighbors from the Goulds community and its surrounding neighborhoods. The collection of black and white portraits revere a cross section of the African-American men, women, and children who live, work, and play throughout these neighborhoods.
