THOUSANDS PARTICIPATE IN LIBRARY SYSTEM'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM!
During summer break, nearly 12,000 children, teens and adults registered for and participated in Miami-Dade Public Library System's 2011 Summer Reading Program. The program ran from June 11 through July 23 and was available at all 48 branch locations. The goal of the summer reading program is to encourage children, teens and adults to visit their nearest branch, explore the assortment of library resources and enjoy special programming. Every week a teen who read for two hours or a child who read or was read to for two hours qualified to receive an entry ticket for the Grand Prize drawing. More than 40,000 Grand Prize entry tickets were returned. Grand Prizes included: a Miami Dolphins VIP Training Camp Experience, Miami Dolphins VIP Game Day Experience, Miami Dolphins Memorabilia, gift cards to Barnes and Noble, Gamestop, Best Buy, Toys 'R Us, among many others. Adults who participated also qualified to win prizes such as a Barnes & Noble Nook 3G+Wi-Fi, $100 gift card to Publix, $100 gift card to a Barnes & Noble book store and $100 gift card to Olive Garden.
The Miami-Dade Public Library System's Summer Reading Program is made possible with the support of the Friends of the Library and the Miami Dolphins Foundation. For information on other programs, click on the Calendar of Events, or call 305.375.BOOK (2665).
