The Miami-Dade Public Library System wants to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions by providing the tools needed to make your life easier. Sign up for a library card today and gain access to the information and ideas available to you for free from your public library. Why not borrow instead of buying books, music CDs, DVDs, video games, and more? Visit any one of the 48 branches to sign up for a library card and start saving time and money.
11 GOALS THE LIBRARY CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE IN 2011:
Be computer savvy – The library offers classes for children and adults on the basics of using the computer, the Internet, and word processing applications. Children can get help with homework assignments and adults can learn how to create e-mail accounts and ways to safely surf the net.
Organize your life – Is clutter taking over your life? Want to learn time management skills? The library has hundreds of books and audio books about the science of organization. Our librarians are always willing to help you find exactly what you need to get your home or office organized and to better help you manage your time.
Get the job you want – From job search to resume-building, the library offers free classes to help you sharpen your job searching skills. Gain access to a wealth of online resources, such as jobbankusa, career builder, hotjobs, monster, nationjob and more. Learn how to take advantage of these resources and maximize your skills today.
Eat right and exercise more – Attend yoga or Tai Chi classes and help get your life in balance. Get the skinny on growing your own fruits and vegetables on Wednesday, January 19, 7 p.m. at the Miami Lakes Branch, 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. Checkout exercise videos or download music to your mobile device. We have all the tools you need to get you moving.
Explore your community and the world – Whether you’re planning a vacation at home or abroad, a romantic honeymoon, or the cruise of a lifetime, the library has the books, videos, and databases you need to plan your next trip.
Learn something new – In addition to an extensive collection of materials on everything from A-Z, the library also offers thousands of free programs on a variety of topics, including arts and crafts, book clubs, cooking, filmmaking, environmental awareness, and much more. Encourage your children to be readers by bringing them to storytime at the library. Each branch offers Reading Ready storytimes that are designed to be fun and aid in the development of your child’s early literacy skills.
Read more – With so many titles to choose from deciding what to read next can be overwhelming. The library offers many tools to help you find a great book to enjoy. Download an ebook – The library’s eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eVideos are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and there are no late fees. Be entertained – The library offers more than 1,200 cultural and literary programs each month. And this year’s lineup will be bigger and better as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary. Meet a famous author; attend an art exhibition or a live performance.
Learn about your past – Our highly trained staff at the Main Library’s Genealogy Department is ready to help you explore your family’s roots.
