A record number of children, ages 6-12, participated in Miami-Dade Public Library System’s annual bookmark contest “Open the Door to New Worlds.” More than 3,000 entries were collected from November 1-15, and were judged on originality, neatness and the best depiction of a favorite character or scene from a book. From those entries, each branch selected an individual winner. Keren Soto from South Dade Regional Library was chosen from the branch entries as the 2008 Bookmark Contest winner. Soto received a large basket of art supplies, a football autographed by Miami Dolphins Quarterback Chad Henne, and will have her bookmark printed and distributed throughout all 47 branches. Topping off the contest was a party for all finalists and their families.
The bookmark contest was presented with the generous support of the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
