Shenandoah Branch Library to close for major renovations - Mobile library to provide service to patrons
MIAMI, December 31, 2007 – The Shenandoah Branch Library – 2111 SW 19 Street – will be closed, beginning Saturday, January 5, 2008, for extensive renovations. On Tuesday, January 8, a mobile library will be parked on site to provide services to patrons. The mobile library will be available Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and will be closed Sunday and Monday.
An approximate $1.4 million dollar renovation plan, for the 50-year-old facility, includes both interior and exterior improvements. A new main entrance, which will have a plaza-style feel, will offer patrons the choice of sitting outdoor with their laptops to access the Internet and the library’s resources with free WiFi. The interior will include an open floor plan with improved lighting and more people space - making the new branch a more compelling destination. Part of the plan is to maintain the 1950s style of the building, but enhance it with an updated flair. New furniture, new fixtures and ADA modifications are also included. Completion of the project is expected by early 2009.
