Miami, Fl - On November 2nd, Miami-Dade voters overwhelming approved a $2.9 billion Building Better Communities Bond Program which will set aside $52 million for the construction of three new libraries and the renovation of existing ones. The bonds will enhance the Library’s Capital Plan which was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in 2001. Under that aggressive Plan, funding is set aside for the construction of seven new facilities and the opening of eight branches in shopping centers.
As a result of both the Capital Plan and the Bond Program, ten new libraries will now be built for the Miami-Dade Public Library System. Groundbreaking for the first library is scheduled for December 1st.
The Bond Program will also improve water and sewer and flood control systems, expand parks, recreational, public safety and healthcare facilities and calls for the construction of multicultural educational facilities.
