(MIAMI, FL) - The Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Project L.E.A.D. (Literacy for Every Adult in Dade) has been selected as the winner of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network’s (SEFLIN), 2007 Vista Award for its efforts to increase literacy among adults in Miami-Dade County.
Project L.E.A.D.’s training team, comprised of career librarians, branch managers, administrative staff, and para-professionals has been responsible for the training of hundreds of volunteer tutors in adult basic literacy, providing them with the tools and confidence to teach adults how to read and write. Representing more than 60 years of combined library experience, all members of the team have served as volunteer adult-literacy tutors, thus distinguishing themselves by their selfless commitment to the community, a vital part of the mission of the Miami-Dade Public Library System.
The award will be presented at a luncheon in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, November 16.
SEFLIN is a non-profit membership organization of Southeast Florida libraries dedicated to supporting cooperation between all types of libraries. The Vista award recognizes an individual or team of library employees for providing excellent library service and furthering cooperation between all types of libraries.
