Miami-Dade County, FL. – The Miami-Dade Public Library System is joining other libraries, schools and bookstores across the nation in an effort to encourage teens to read a humorous book or graphic novel and to “Laugh out Loud at the Library” during Teen Read Week, October 14-20.

The celebration kicks off on Wednesday, October 10, with young adult author Alex Flinn who will discuss her work, and share excerpts from her new book Beastly, at the California Club and Miami Lakes branch libraries.  From October 13 -20, teens are invited to discover their lighter side and express themselves through poetry and short stories during word-a-thons to be held at various branches. During these sessions a current Miami Dolphins football player or alumni will share his favorite book and discuss the importance of reading. Teens will also have the opportunity to learn about library offerings including audio books and playaways; weekly programs such as Anime and Manga; open mic night; chess and book clubs, and stimulating discussions on issues that matter to teens.

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the American Library Association to foster creativity through reading.
