Miami-Dade, Fl – The community is invited to join Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez on Wednesday, September 26, 9:30 a.m. for a groundbreaking ceremony for the future Pinecrest Branch Library located at 11000 Red Road in Pinecrest, Florida.
The 15,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility will be constructed alongside a new community center and will house a collection of 30,000 books and materials. Patrons will be able to enjoy an assortment of cultural and educational programs, have access to the internet through computer terminals and will be able to borrow portable laptops while on the premises and utilize Wi-Fi technology.
The Pinecrest Branch is budgeted at a construction cost of $3.2 million and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009. The Golden Glades Branch, the first Library to be constructed under the Library System’s Capital Plan, is nearing completion and is expected to open in December. Other libraries that are currently under construction include: International Mall, Kendale Lakes and Virrick Park Branch Libraries. Additionally, six libraries have already opened in shopping centers as a result of this plan which calls for the opening of 18 libraries by the year 2011.
