Art Exhibits and Month-Long Programs from Spain and Latin America

Miami, Fl. -- The Miami-Dade Public Library System is holding its month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage 2005, bringing an extensive series of commemorative events and extraordinary art exhibits to multiple branches. Hispanic culture is featured through author presentations, classic guitar and authentic Flamenco performances, lectures, and Chilean folkloric groups, in addition to exciting children’s programs.

Art exhibits include the works of Emilio Sanchez, made possible by the Emilio Sanchez Foundation in New York. His works on paper present striking, stylized images of Caribbean architecture and natural and urban landscapes by this Cuban-born artist. All the works in the exhibition, except one, are from the Library’s Permanent Collection. Emilio had donated hundreds of artworks, sketches and photos to the Library before he died. Other artists joining the series are Cuban-born Ramón Carulla(opening night in the Coral Gables Library October 13), Miami-Dade professor Alberto Meza, Cuban doctor and photographer Roberto Machado and a number of Puerto Rican artists. A listing of major programs and exhibits now follows.
