Miami, Fl - On Saturday, September 18, at 1:30 p.m., the North Dade Regional Library, 2455 NW 183 Street, will proudly celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Miami-Dade Commissioner Betty Ferguson will join City of Miami Gardens public officials, residents and civic leaders from North Dade in the official anniversary ceremony and festive community gathering.
Extensive renovations have taken place at the branch for the past few months. These include parking lot resurfacing and light replacement; installations of interior glass walls; rehab of public bathrooms and sidewalks; interior lighting; new tile and carpeting for the lobby; tile installation at the entrance; and newly designed interior signage, among other repairs. $55,100 was budgeted for the purchase of new computers, increasing the number of public stations from 88 to 106. Renovations also included rewiring and upgrading the infrastructure, increasing the number of computer terminals. Patrons are also enjoying a new amenity – a coffee cart located at the lobby – where children and adults can delight in their favorite book or magazine while tasting pastries, soft drinks or a cup of warm coffee. Total for the entire renovation was $1,300,000.
The North Dade Regional Library is now home to Outreach Services that bring the Library to many who cannot physically visit the facilities. These include Connections, Library Services for the Homebound, and Talking Books, which loans books and magazines on cassette tapes or in Braille free by mail. The Board of County Commissioners and the Library invite North Dade residents to attend the ceremony, to be followed by a reception, celebrating the endless contributions the Library has made to the North Dade community throughout the years.
