Miami-Dade County, FL – Top readers in the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Summer Reading Program –Serve up a Good Book – were honored by the Miami Dolphins in a pre-game presentation on Saturday, August 25, at Dolphins Stadium.
Five young readers were presented with “most valuable reader” certificates by Dolphins Community Relations Director Ilona Wolpin. After the presentation, readers and their families were invited to watch the game at the field club level.
On Saturday, August 18, four readers and their families were also hosted by the Dolphins during training Camp, and had a chance to meet and get autographs from current and former players.
The annual reading program, for youth ages 18 and under, called for participants to read for a minimum of four hours per week. A record 13,000 children participated in the program which ran from June 9 to July 21. Participants also had a chance to enjoy arts and crafts; cooking and wildlife shows; performances by magicians and storytellers; readings by Dolphins players and cheerleaders, and the chance to win lots of prizes.
The Miami Dolphins Foundation is a sponsor of the Library’s Summer Reading Program and other reading initiatives. The Miami Dolphins Foundation was established in 1995 in conjunction with the Miami Dolphins Football Team. The Dolphins, through the Foundation, have made a commitment to the betterment of South Florida youth through a direct focus on, but not limited to, educational, health, social and community service issues.
