Miami-Dade, Fl – The community is invited to join Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Joe A. Martinez, on Wednesday, September 6, 10 a.m. for the groundbreaking ceremony of the future Kendale Lakes Branch Library, 15205 SW 88 Street.
The 15,000 square-foot facility, to be built on a 2-acre parcel, will house a collection of 30,000 books and materials and will offer an extensive line-up of programs in an inviting, state-of-the-art environment. Patrons will have access to the internet through 20 computer terminals, and several portable laptops utilizing Wi-Fi technology.
The Kendale Lakes Branch, the third of ten libraries to be built as part of the Library System’s Capital Construction Plan, is budgeted at a construction cost of $3 million and is expected to be completed in late 2007. The first library, the Golden Glades Branch, is nearing completion and is expected to open in November. Another library, the future International Mall Branch, recently began construction. Additionally, six libraries have already opened in shopping centers as a result of this plan which calls for the opening of 18 libraries by the year 2011.
