MIAMI, FL, July 27, 2005 – Volunteers are urgently needed to sort books for Miami’s largest book sale, sponsored by the Miami-Dade Friends of the Library. Now in its fifth year, the sale will be held at the Main Library from Friday, October 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. “The library has already received more than 50,000 donated books and this promises to be the biggest book sale ever. We’re appealing to community organizations and individuals to step forward and help by sorting books by category for the sale,” said Noelle A. Galperin, Friends president.
A new feature of this year’s sale will be a preview buying opportunity on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m exclusively for Friends of the Library members. Basic membership is $15. Sale hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Last year, the Friends Book Sale raised more than $20,000 to support library programs. To volunteer or join the Friends organization, please call 305-375-5017 or email Friends@mdpls.org. The library asks that sorting volunteers give 24 hours notice.
