Miami-Dade County, FL - Adults living in the neighborhoods of downtown Miami, Allapattah, Coconut Grove, Culmer/Overtown, Edison Center, Little River, Lemon City and Shenandoah can now take advantage of free, Basic Computer Skills, Introduction to the Internet and Introduction to E-mail, classes at the Miami-Dade Public Library System, Main Library, 101 W Flagler Street.
Classes are presented in English, on Friday and Saturday during July and August, from 10 a.m. - noon in the Business & Science Department. There is no pre-registration required and walk-ins are welcome.
The Classes:
Basic Computer Skills: Introduction to Computers Whether you're just starting out or need a simple refresher, this class is for you! Learn the basics of Microsoft Windows, including keyboarding, using a mouse, opening and saving files and more.
Introduction to the Internet Learn about the Internet and the World Wide Web, web browsers, home pages, hypertext, menus and toolbars, bookmarks, plus a sampling of many popular websites. There will be an interactive slide show/Internet presentation followed by hands-on practice. Prerequisite: Introduction to computers or equivalent
Introduction to E-mail Learn the basics of sending and receiving e-mail, including replies, forwards, attachments, signature files, address books and more. Learn how to set up and use an e-mail address, and explore e-mail options, e.g. yahoo or one of the many free Internet-based email services. Prerequisite: Introduction to the Internet or equivalent
