Miami-Dade County, FL - The public is invited to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the eagerly anticipated Opa-locka Branch Library on Wednesday, July 25th at 10:30 a.m. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Commission Vice-Chair Barbara Jordan will join city officials, administrators and residents in the ceremony. The 3,500-square-foot library is located at 780 Fisherman Street, on the ground floor of Town Centre One – an office complex which houses the City of Opa-locka’s administrative offices.
It was only after city officials decided to join the countywide Library Taxing District that the Miami-Dade Public Library System was able to open a branch in Opa-locka. Residents, who have been without a library since the city-run facility closed four years ago, now have access to a collection of more than 15,000 books, DVDs, CDs and audio books. The new branch offers a comprehensive collection of African American authors and subject matter, a regular book collection and a Spanish-language section. Patrons can also enjoy free Internet services through six computer terminals and six portable laptops utilizing Wi-Fi technology.
Operating hours are Monday-Thursday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Later this year, the Library System will grow to 45 libraries with the planned opening of three branches in Coconut Grove’s Elizabeth Virrick Park, Sunset Drive and adjacent to International Mall.
