Miami, Fl June 3, 2004 – On June 16, 1904 Stephen Dedalus and Leopold Bloom each took their epic journeys through Dublin in James Joyce’s Ulysses. Bloomsday, as it is now known, has become a tradition for Joyce enthusiasts the world over, and the Miami-Dade Public Library System is inviting children, teens and adults to rejoice and celebrate with Irish dance and crafts, dramatic readings from James Joyce’s Ulysses, cooking demonstrations, and an afternoon Tea Social featuring Irish fiddler James Kelly. Prizes will also be awarded. A complete schedule of activities is attached.
Bloomsday at the Coral Gables Branch Library follows the recently held Art of Storytelling Festival, which brought professional storytellers from Ireland and Irish culture to the Library through an international cultural exchange with the Dublin City Public Libraries. Guests are encouraged to dress in costumes from the 1900-1920’s era! For additional information, please visit www.mdpls.org or call (305) 442-8706.
