In an effort to encourage children and their families to discover the wonderful resources available at their public libraries during summer vacation, the Miami-Dade Public Library System invites youth, ages 18 and under, to participate in its annual Summer Reading Program.
This year’s theme is “Books Ahoy!” Students who read for a minimum of four hours each week will be eligible for weekly giveaways. The program is designed so that readers of all levels can participate. Even tiny tots can participate when a parent or guardian reads to them for a minimum of four hours.
Participating in the Summer Reading Program is simple. Parents can bring their children to the library beginning Saturday, June 3rd and register them in the Children’s Department, where they will receive a Reading Log. Older children and teens can register on their own. When participants have read for four hours, they must log the reading time on the Reading Log and bring it back to the library.
All eligible readers will be entered to win one of the grand prizes. Weekly drawings will be held at all Miami -Dade Public Libraries. Participants will be eligible to win free passes to South Florida attractions. There will be two winners each week in each library. Winners will receive two passes to one of the following South Florida attractions: Miami Children Museum, Miami Seaquarium, Wannado City, Miami Planetarium or Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Metrozoo, Miracle Theater – “No Dog’s Allowed”. Grand Prizes include: a Britto Lunch Box, Parrot Jungle pass for family of 4, Wannado City Birthday party for 10, Swimming with the Dolphins gift certificate, Lucky Strike Bowling party for 10.
