    Library System Hosts Storytelling Showcase Series and Mini-Festivals to Celebrate the Art of Storytelling

    Miami-Dade County, Fl – The Miami-Dade Public Library System, in association with the Consulat général de France à Miami, presents a storytelling showcase series and mini festivals to celebrate the Art of Storytelling 2007. These events offer a preview of the grand storytelling festival that will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Main Library.

    The storytelling showcase series gets underway on May 1st, 11 a.m., at the Palm Springs North Branch Library with author and storyteller Fereydoun Kian. Also headlining this series will be Colombian author and storyteller Jaime Riascos, who will appear at the Miami Lakes Branch Library on Wednesday, May 2, 6 p.m. and at the Palm Springs North Branch Library on Thursday, May 10, 10:30 a.m. The series run through May 17, with storytellers appearing at all 41 library branches throughout Miami-Dade County.

    On Saturday May 12, the Coral Gables Branch Library will celebrate the spirit of France with a mini festival, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Visitors can meet storybook character Madeline, enjoy crepes and create their own arts and crafts. The fun continues on Thursday, May 17, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Miami Lakes Branch Library with international storytellers Theresa Amoon, who will captivate her audience with colorful tales reflecting her diverse background, and renowned storyteller Kuniko Yamamoto who will add a touch of magic with her original masks, origami, folk songs and storytelling from the oldest Japanese book of Kojiki.

    On Saturday, May 19, all the elements of the Art of Storytelling will come together at the free international festival day at the Main Library in downtown, Miami. The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature international storytellers, storybook characters, arts & crafts, music, food, face painting, giveaways, and a West Indian Carnival parade.
