As part of its storytelling cultural exchange initiative, the Miami-Dade Public Library System will hold its 3rd annual Art of Storytelling Festival on Saturday, May 15, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 101 West Flagler Street in Miami-Dade Cultural Plaza. Storytellers from Ireland will be the featured performers for 2004 thanks to a cultural and professional exchange between the Miami-Dade Public Library System and the Dublin City Public Library in Ireland.
Storytelling, Irish music, Irish and Caribbean crafts and other activities will take place throughout the day in the Main Library’s Auditorium and Children’s Room, as well as the Historical Museum of South Florida, the Miami Art Museum and the Cultural Plaza itself.
Professional storytellers such as Madafo and Carrie Sue Ayvar will participate, delighting the whole family with African-American tales as well as bilingual stories. Margaret Read MacDonald, internationally renowned storyteller, author and folklorist, will share witty and funny stories especially for the younger family members. From Dublin, Ireland, Liz Weir brings the finest of storytelling. The journey into the magical world of storytelling includes techniques such as dance, singing, puppetry and various musical instruments. Children of all ages and visiting adults will have an excellent opportunity to be entertained together while learning about our international neighbors. A schedule of library activities is attached.
