Library to Launch 2007 Art of Storytelling International Festival with French Film Series – Bonjour Miami!
Miami-Dade, Fl – The Miami-Dade Public Library System, in association with Cinema Vortex and the Consulat général de France à Miami, kicks off the 6th Annual Art of Storytelling Festival with a French Film Series – Bonjour Miami - featuring short films playing in four branch locations throughout the county.
The Bonjour Miami French Film Series opens at the Main Library, 101 W. Flagler Street, Thursday, May 3rd, 7 p.m., and features early short films, by leading directors, from one of the most critical movements in the history of cinema, the French New Wave. This series includes films by Francoise Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.
New Cinema Shorts: France -a selection of contemporary short films (fiction, documentary, animation and live action) from the acclaimed Clermont Ferrand short film festival in France will be shown Thursday, May 10,at the Lemon City Branch Library, 430 NE 61st Street, at 10 a.m. and the Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia Street, at 7 p.m.This series will also be shown at the Miami Beach Regional Library, 227 22nd Street, on Saturday, May 12, 2 p.m.
The Art of Storytelling Festival was started by the Library System in 2001 as a way to promote literacy, by introducing the community to new storytelling techniques that would excite children and encourage them to read. The event has grown into a culturally enriching showcase, which combines a month-long series of storytelling events; a professional exchange workshop, and an international festival day that draws participants from libraries around the world. The 2007 Art of Storytelling international exchange partner is the Bibliothèque Méjanes, Aix-en-Provence, France.
On Saturday, May 19, the 2007 Art of Storytelling program culminates with a free international festival day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library.
