Miami-Dade, FL - Since 1958, libraries around the nation have celebrated National Library Week as a way to commemorate the contributions of the nation's libraries and librarians. During this time we recognize the value of libraries in providing educational, recreational and cultural opportunities to people of all ages.
National Library Week 2007 will be observed April 15 - 21, but the Miami-Dade Public Library System has expanded it to a month-long celebration. During the month community leaders will visit branch libraries and read to children. These special guest readers include Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez, members of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, municipal elected officials, educators, police officers, artists and other leading members of the community.
Patrons can also enjoy special programs including an appearance by Miami author Gaby Triana who will discuss her works; Backstage Pass, Cubanita and the forthcoming Temptress Four, at the West Kendall Regional Library at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
