Miami, Fl April 8, 2004 – The Miami-Dade Public Library System invites the arts community and the general public to a lecture entitled Haitian Inspiration, Thursday, April 22, at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Library’s Auditorium, 101 West Flagler Street. Candice Russell will be the keynote speaker discussing the current exhibitions of Haitian art, curated by her for the Main Library, the West Kendall Regional Library, 10201 Hammocks Blvd, and North Dade Regional Library, 2455 NW 183rd Street. Art critic for the Sun Sentinel's City Link, Ms. Russell is an accomplished curator, writer, collector and expert on the arts of Haiti, being quite knowledgeable about the artists, their culture and their creations.
The Main library exhibition, Haitian Inspiration: Sequins and Beads Speak of Spirits, is a collection of banners and bottles used in ceremonies. All three exhibitions may be seen until May 29. For additional information, please contact Barbara Young at 305-375-5048.
