Miami, Fl March 24, 2004 - - First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance that celebrates the contributions of our libraries and librarians with the intent of promoting library use and community support. Once again, the Library is the place to be in April, with community leaders and public officials reading at the various library branches of the Miami-Dade Public Library System during a month-long celebration, being kicked-off on Friday, April 2, at the Coral Reef Branch.
The programs are free and open to all residents who would like to get to know their Commissioner, Mayor, Council members or civic leaders better as well as bring their children to the Library. Miami-Dade Commissioners Betty T. Ferguson, Sally A. Heyman, Joe A. Martinez, Jimmy Morales, Dennis C. Moss, Katy Sorenson, Natacha Seijas, Rebeca Sosa, and Senator Javier D. Souto will participate in the exciting reading programs, in addition to Mayors of different municipalities, council members and community activists.
