The Miami Beach Regional Library is now operating at its new 42,000 square foot facility at 227 22nd street. The Regional Library, designed by architect Robert A. M. Stern, will celebrate its long-awaited opening with a weekend of special events. The official Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, April 1, 2 p.m. A ticketed Author’s Evening is set for Saturday, April 2, and a free Family Festival Day will be held on Sunday, April 3.
The Regional Library is located in the beautiful South Beach area of Miami Beach, one block from the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. It is joined by the Bass Museum of Art and by a rehearsal facility for the Miami City Ballet. Together the three institutions now form the Miami Beach Cultural Park bounded by 21st and 23rd streets. The facility now houses a newly-ordered collection of 75,000 materials, a large auditorium, a coffee bar, a reading garden with fountains, and an inviting children’s room.
The Library serves residents and visitors from all over the world who come to ask a reference question, to see a program, to obtain local information, to read a paper, or to check out a book. There is a wide selection of U.S. and foreign newspapers and extensive periodical subscriptions. In addition, the library has more than 100 computers with flat screen monitors for accessing the Internet and online databases. Also, children’s, young adult and foreign language materials are featured at the Regional facility. Extensive programming throughout the year attracts large audiences to the library. Lectures, films, discussion groups, concerts, dance programs and children’s events are regularly scheduled.
