Library Launches County-wide READ Poster Promotion
In its efforts to increase public awareness of the Library System, its resources and programs and also in recognition of Miami-Dade elected officials and their continuing support of public libraries, the Miami-Dade Public Library System recently launched a public information campaign featuring elected officials encouraging residents to READ. Following the examples of celebrities like Gloria Estefan, Salma Hayek, Denzell Washington, Shaquille O’Neill, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Gibson, Britney Spears and scores of others who posed for American Library Association posters aimed at promoting reading and library usage, Miami-Dade’s Mayor and Commissioners became literacy “celebrities” by agreeing to pose for the locally-produced Library series with their favorite books.
Commissioners joined County Manager George Burgess, Assistant County Manager Alina Tejeda-Hudak and Library Director Raymond Santiago in the unveiling ceremony held at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center on February 1st. Elected officials expressed their enthusiasm in the campaign as they autographed the displayed posters and renewed their commitment to encourage their constituents to take advantage of the rich resources and world of learning found at the Library.
The Library’s campaign reaches out to the Hispanic community by incorporating the Spanish-language message: LEA. In addition to promoting literacy, constituents from all neighborhoods are now able to recognize their Commissioner on posters displayed throughout the Library System’s 40 branches.
