In its steady path of expansion to better serve Miami-Dade residents, the Miami-Dade Public Library System held a groundbreaking ceremony on January 10th on the 2.4 acre parcel that is the site of the future Golden Glades Branch Library.

North Dade community leaders joined Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez, Commissioners Dorrin D. Rolle, Sally A. Heyman and Barbara J. Jordan and County Manager George M. Burgess for the groundbreaking ceremony. Also on hand were Library Advisory Board members Jeff Donnelly and Carol Wiley,
Assistant County Manager Alina Tejeda-Hudak, Library Director Raymond Santiago and GSA Director Bernard McGriff.

The first of ten libraries to be built as part of the Library System’s comprehensive Capital Plan, Golden Glades Branch will house in its 7,500 square-foot facility a collection of 22,000 materials and 20 public Internet stations. Budgeted at a construction cost of $2.1 and a start-cost of $1 million, construction will be completed in January 2006. Located at N.E. 166 Street between 1st and 2nd avenues, the Library System anticipates a spring 2006 Grand Opening.
