Miami‑Dade Public Library System presents Page.Print.Post>Make a Book
– Exhibition curated by Juana Meneses and Leila A. Leder Kremer –
(Miami, FL – June 11, 2015) The Miami‑Dade Public Library System presents Page.Print.Post>Make a Book by Juana Meneses and Leila A. Leder Kremer from June 20 to November 14, 2015 at the Main Library’s second floor exhibition space located at 101 West Flagler Street in Downtown, Miami. There will be an opening reception and artist’s talk on June 20 from 2 ‑ 5 p.m. There will also be a workshop titled Books as Idea Generators on July 11 from 2 ‑ 4 p.m. in the Main Library’s second floor exhibition space.
Page.Print.Post>Make a Book aims to foster appreciation and understanding for artists’ books as portable, intimate, democratic and self‑contained works of art. Interdisciplinary artists Juana Meneses and Leila Leder Kremer will curate and commission* artists, with ties to South Florida, to produce limited edition artists’ books.
The exhibition will also feature artwork connected to the production of the editions, process notes and artwork and artists books from The Miami‑Dade Public Library System’s Permanent Art Collection, creating a unique conversation about then and now. A variety of media and formats will be explored to define the book format in unexpected ways. In the spirit of Page.Print.Post>Make a Book, production resources will be available to the community.
This workshop will explore zine making and its multiple possibilities for creating narratives, focusing on themes of identity, home and the geography of our port city: Miami. The workshop will engage participants to write/tell a story or memory about “home” and Miami. The workshop will concentrate on simple book formats; investigate the relationship between mass‑produced and one‑off publications. Participants will briefly explore the history of zines and books, look at examples from the exhibition, and finally will have the chance to make their own book. Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring paper clippings, prose, or other imagery to use in their zine.
Please call 305‑375‑2665 for more information.
* The book commissions will be funded by grants obtained by Meneses & Leder Kremer.
