Miami-Dade Public Library System celebrates Library Card Sign‑Up Month
– September is library card sign‑up month –
(Miami, FL – August 12, 2015) A library card is the coolest card ever! The Miami‑Dade Public Library System is proud to announce that it is celebrating Library Card Sign‑Up Month in September.
Studies have shown that children who are read to in the home and who use the Library perform much better in school. September is Library Card Sign‑Up Month, a time when The Miami‑Dade Public Library System joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most important school supply of all—a FREE library card.
Resources are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement. With the power of the library card, students can learn a new language, get one‑to‑one online tutoring, explore World Book, discover how to write code, build a website, take SAT prep classes and much more.
Today’s libraries are not only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where students can collaborate using new technologies. Our Library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources that can be accessed in person or online.
The Library provides access and programs for students of all ages. For preschool children and toddlers, the Miami‑Dade Public Library offers activities such as story times to encourage school readiness. For older children and teens the library supplements education with STEAM programs and for older teens the Library offers tools to help them prepare for college. There’s really something for everyone and it’s all free with the power of the library card.
