    Volunteer Services

    Volunteer Services assists volunteers and potential volunteers in orientation, placement and training.

    Why should I volunteer?

    • To give back to the community
    • To help others
    • To feel good
    • To build your resume and gain job experience
    • To better understand your library, your community and yourself

    What jobs do volunteers do?

    Some of the jobs volunteers include:

    • Assisting in the library office
    • Mending books and other materials
    • Shelving books and magazines
    • Greeting patrons at the door
    • Helping patrons with the library’s computer resources
    • Assisting the children’s librarian
    • Teaching an adult to read

    Hours and work locations are flexible.

    How do I become a volunteer?

    Step 1: Are you eligible?

    • Adults: Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
    • Teens: Must be at least 16 years of age AND volunteering in order to fulfill community service hours for school.

    Step 2: Complete a Volunteer Application*.

    Volunteer Applications are available:

    *Teens: If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you must complete a paper copy of the application, and have the completed application signed by a parent or guardian.

    • A fingerprint requirement must be completed before applicant can be placed. The Library System will cover the cost of fingerprinting.
