Miami-Dade Public Library System

In the summer of 2010, the 34-year- old Hispanic Branch Library was relocated to its new location at the bottom floor of the Villa Aurora Apartment complex. The new state-of-the-art 12,000 square foot library is the result of partnership between the Miami-Dade Public Library System, Miami-Dade County’s Department of Homeless Trust and Carrfour Supportive Housing – a non-profit organization that provides permanent housing and support services to formerly homeless individuals and families. This innovative partnership maximized the “mixed use” approach to development and construction and combined functions with like-minded entities in an effort to create the best use of public facilities during tough economic times. This partnership formed what is the first of its kind east of the Mississippi and the only one that combines a state-of-the-art library with affordable and supportive housing known as the Villa Aurora Apartments.
