South Dade Regional

Originally built in 1977, the South Dade Regional Library was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew. After extensive renovations, the library reopened in 1994 to serve a diverse population, including many young families. Local youth enjoy one of Miami-Dade County’s largest Children’s Rooms - complete with its own alligator and an expansive separate storytelling area. The 52,000 square-foot building includes a multipurpose auditorium that is used for performing arts events, community-based programs and meetings.

The library offers the latest in technology: Internet connections, online databases, and business software applications. Although the library often bustles with activity, a quiet study room is available and a special room is provided for use by participants in the Library’s adult literacy program, Project L.E.A.D.

The South Dade Regional Library is located in the South Dade Government Center, between the Courthouse and the Police Station. The Government Center is located one block southeast of the Southland Mall. Easy access to the Library is via Exit 11 off the Florida Turnpike.
