In our iPac online catalog one can view scanned images of the Romer Collection. Once you are on our homepage (http://www.mdpls.org), click on the “Library Catalog” button on the column on the left side of the page. Click inside the search box and type in “Romer Collection” AND any other term you need. To see photographs of Miami Beach one would search for “Miami Beach Romer Collection.” More than 1000 images have been scanned to date and we are working on the rest.
For the photographs that have not been scanned yet, one searches the same way as above but leave out the word “collection.” So for a search for photographs about Miami Beach one enters the terms “Romer Miami Beach.” Notice that all of the scanned images as well as many more that are not yet scanned appear in the results list. Click on “Show Details”. On the left side of the screen is “Item Information”. Toward the bottom of the screen is a link labeled “MARC Record”. Click on this link. The resulting display will show the fixed fields of the catalog record. The last field is known as the 965 field. This shows the image number. The image number is the number after the $a and before the $b. We need the image numbers to pull the photographs and process the photographic orders.
